SUGAR ® Diagnostic Assessment

Do you feel you need help with sugar addiction? Do you wonder if that’s even a real thing? Maybe you just eat too much junk because you’re an emotional eater. Let me help you figure it out with the SUGAR® Diagnostic Assessment tool.

What is the Sugar® diagnostic assessment? First, here’s what “SUGAR” stands for. It’s the acronym for Sugar Use General Assessment Recording.  And in the world of sugar addiction, the word sugar is an umbrella name for a variety of carbohydrates such as flour, grains, starchy foods, and highly processed junk. These are foods that easily convert to blood sugar (glucose) in your body. The kinds of food that hijack your brain and cause all sorts of metabolic disorders throughout your body and mind.

This diagnostic instrument assesses a person’s addiction to or pathological use of sugar. It can help men and women completely transform their lives. How does it do that? By giving you real information about the reason why you can’t stick to a healthy way of eating.

It’s only when you’ve been professionally diagnosed that you can know for sure if you’re addicted or not. Remember that knowledge is power! With knowledge you can move forward and learn new ways to navigate the nutrition landscape.

What’s the difference between addiction and harmful use?

The Sugar® diagnostic assessment is the only tool of its kind in the world to accurately distinguish between addiction and harmful use. For example, stress eating, emotional eating or bingeing would be considered harmful use.

While addiction is a chemical dependency which is out of your control. You find yourself fixated on getting the food, you may eat it in secret, lie about what you ate, you feel a lot of shame… That looks more like addiction.

These two conditions are not the same and require very different treatment strategies. Addiction requires abstinence as the very first step because moderation never works. Ever. Not for people with food addiction.

You need help with sugar addiction, and I’m trained, and certified to help you.

I’m trained, experienced, certified, and licensed to use the Sugar® diagnostic assessment. Together we examine your relationship with certain foods and what the related consequences are in your life. It’s a straightforward structured interview that will have you thinking.

We go at a pace that's comfortable for you and we have a few chuckles along the way. There is no judgement and no shaming here.

It may help you to know I've gone through this myself. When I was seeking help with my own issues I had the assessment done. It was tremendously helpful and most meaningful for me.  I have recovered from food addiction and my life has changed for the better in so many ways. I don't think I would have had the clarity of mind to get better had I not done the Sugar® assessment. I did not know I was dealing with an addiction.

OK, so I have your attention and you’re curious. What now?

The first step is for us to meet for about 15 minutes either by phone or Zoom and decide if we’re a good fit to work together. This is a complimentary session. It’s an opportunity to ask some questions and talk about any concerns should they arise.

Assuming we’re a good fit I then send you a Pre-Assessment questionnaire to fill out. I ask my clients to set aside about a half hour to answer the questions. You will email me the filled-out documents. This information-gathering is just to get the lay of the land.  At this point if we haven't done so already, we set a date to do the interview using the Sugar® diagnostic instrument.

The Sugar® diagnostic interview is done via Zoom and it takes about an hour. There are 67 questions to be answered. (I may make reference to the questionnaire you filled out if something requires more clarity.)

When we have completed the interview, I will analyze the results generated by the diagnostic tool and prepare a report for recommendations and action steps.

We will then meet again for about a half hour and I will share with you the full report including a chart showing your addiction development curve. This curve demonstrates very clearly your relationship with Sugars from the very beginning to the present. My clients find this is an extremely motivating experience.
